Hi all, I have a problem with some of my 12 yr olds home work as I’m not sure what the answers are for nouns, verbsn pronoun etc.  So I’m looking for a site where my son can look these up.

try wikipedia.org and askoxford.com. if you put the word noun in the search engine on those sites it comes up with an explanation of what it means. also your dictionary at home should give you the meanings of those words. I hope this helps.

natalie, I just found these sites also - kids.net.au and kids.yahoo.com. on that site there is a link ‘homework help’. also when you need these sorts of things just type the word ‘kids’ or ‘children’ into any search engine and you will come up with all sorts of things.

You might also like to try your local council library’s website. On those a librarian has sifted through sites to find really good ones for homework. Also you might like to try:

    (1) Check out the Grammar Gorillas!
    http://www.funbrain.com/grammar/index.html
Our friends, the Grammar Gorillas, need help identifying parts of speech. If you click on the right word in the sentence, our friends get a banana. And you know, a gorilla with a banana is a gorilla with appeal.
    Beginner (nouns and verbs only)
    Advanced (all parts of speech)

    (2) Fabulous, Aussie page on the very basics of grammar
    http://www.skwirk.com/p-u_s-6_u-275/grammar/nsw/english

    (3) Punctuation Made Simple
    http://lilt.ilstu.edu/golson/punctuation/
Truly simple, one-page explanations of how and when to use colons, semi-colons, commas, dashes and apostrophes.

    (4) VERY user-friendly and not at all overwhelming:

    (5) See the glossary in the Grammar Slammer!
    http://englishplus.com/grammar/glossary.htm

(6)Online Writing Lab (OWL) - comprehensive. Pick and choose (don’t try to read it all) and you’ll be right.

    (7) Basic Elements of English by the University of Calgary
    http://www.ucalgary.ca/UofC/eduweb/grammar/index.htm
The title belies the site. This is extremely comprehensive, so could be a little overwhelming for a young one… but for you, though …

    General homework help:
    (a) http://www.askforkids.com/

Ask for Kids (formerly known as Ask Jeeves for Kids) is a fast, easy and kid-friendly way for kids to search online. Designed to be a fun destination site focused on learning and “edu-tainment,” Ask for Kids uses natural-language technology that allows kids to ask questions and perform web searches, such as “What’s it like to live in space?”or even “Convert 122 inches into feet” in the same way they would ask a parent, friend or teacher.

It combines human editorial judgment, age-appropriate feature content and filtering technology to enable kids to find both relevant and befitting information on the Web.

    (b) this one you have to pay for - but there is a 30-day free trial …
    Discovery’s Homework help site, Cosmeo
    http://education.discovery.com/site/services_cosmeo.cfm
There is free (and ad-free) clip art available for educational use on this site, too.

    Good luck
